CRISIS COMMUNICATION
This project is to create communication plans for a company facing a crisis. The communication strategy is to inform, contextualize the problem, and make recommendations. The response to the public may include denial or shirting the blame of the incident, evasion of responsibility, reduce offensiveness, corrective action, mortification, etc. so that the company may have its image restored. The project requires an understanding of the crisis and image repair.
The "crisis"
H&M is experiencing a serious reputation crisis. A young black boy model wearing a sweatshirt with “Coolest Monkey In the Jungle” has been spread widely among social media. Most responses were negative due to the particularly racist stereotype of comparing a black person to a monkey. The public is offended and H&M’s brand is jeopardized.
